How it works

  1. Name the decision

Tell us the one thing you are weighing right now: a new location, a hire, a marketing budget, a price change. A single sentence is enough to start.

  2. Bring three numbers

Monthly revenue, gross margin and the number of new customers you won last quarter. We use them to size the decision before anyone talks about tactics.

  3. Talk to the person who will advise you

The first 30 minutes are free and there is no obligation to continue. Call, text or email; you'll talk to a senior strategist.

Services

  • Growth and expansion planning

Test a second location, a new service line or a new part of the city on paper before you commit money to it.

  • Marketing strategy and budget

A written plan that says which customers to chase, which channels to fund, how much to spend and how you will know it worked.

  • Operations advice

Tighten quoting, scheduling, follow-up and first hires so the business runs on routines instead of on the owner's memory.

  • Hourly strategy sessions

Bring one decision, such as a lease, an agency quote or a price change, and leave with a clear recommendation.

Consulting services for Coquitlam owners, and how to pick the right one

Most owners in Coquitlam don't need more ideas. They need someone to look at the next decision with them, check the arithmetic and say plainly whether it holds up. Coquitlam.Business is that second opinion: business and marketing consulting for owner-run companies across the city, from the older streets of Maillardville to the new subdivisions on Burke Mountain.

We're Canadian, and this practice belongs to the Sedighi.ca and SAZ.ca group of companies. The group is headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, and the work is led by Ali Sedighi, MBA, who has spent 17+ years in digital marketing and growth consulting.

What we help Coquitlam owners decide

We help with three kinds of decisions: where to grow, how to market, and how to run the place without burning out. Everything else is detail inside one of those.

  • Growth and expansion. Should you open a second location in City Centre, add a service line, or start serving Port Moody and Port Coquitlam? Our growth and expansion planning puts each option through the same break-even test.
  • Marketing strategy. Which customers are worth chasing, which channels deserve money, and what a reasonable budget looks like for a business your size. See marketing strategy and budget.
  • Operations. Quotes that go out late, follow-ups that never happen, a schedule held together by the owner's phone. Our operations advice turns those habits into routines a team can follow.
  • One-off questions. Sometimes you only need an hour. Hourly strategy sessions cover a single lease, contract, agency proposal or price change.

Why a city of 148,625 needs its own plan

Coquitlam is big enough to behave like several markets at once. The 2021 Census counted 148,625 residents, up 6.7% from 139,284 in 2016, and that growth has not landed evenly. Tower neighbourhoods near the SkyTrain stations, family subdivisions in the northeast and long-established blocks in the southwest each ask something different of a business.

That matters in three practical ways:

  1. Your customer count depends on which part of the city you serve. A clinic near Burquitlam station and a renovator working Westwood Plateau are selling to different households, with different travel times and different expectations.
  2. Language is a real planning variable. According to the same census, the most common non-official mother tongues in the city include Mandarin, Korean, Cantonese and Persian. A marketing plan that ignores that is guessing about a large share of potential customers.
  3. Neighbouring cities are part of your market. Burnaby, New Westminster, Port Moody and Port Coquitlam sit on the city's edges, so a sensible service area often crosses a boundary.

Our areas page walks through each part of Coquitlam and what it means for planning.

A worked example you can check

Here is the kind of arithmetic we do in the first meeting. Suppose your business brings in $60,000 a month at a 45% gross margin, and you are thinking about a second location that will cost $9,000 a month in rent, staff and overhead.

  • Gross profit on each extra $1,000 of sales: $450.
  • Extra monthly sales needed just to cover the new costs: $9,000 ÷ 0.45 = $20,000.
  • If your average sale is $400, that's 50 extra customers a month before the new site earns you a dollar.

Now the real questions are visible. Where would 50 new customers a month come from? How long would it take to reach them? Can you afford the gap while you do? That is the conversation we have, and our guide to second-location math shows the full method.

How we work

We start small and only expand the engagement if the first piece of work earns it.

  • Free first conversation. Thirty minutes, no obligation, and you speak with the person who would actually advise you.
  • Written scope and price before work starts. Hourly, project or retainer, chosen to fit the decision rather than to maximise our fees. Our pricing page lists every range.
  • Recommendations in writing. You get a short document you can share with a partner, banker or spouse, not a slide deck full of jargon.
  • No lock-in. If the advice stops being useful, you stop paying for it.

Proof, stated honestly

We don't publish client quotes or star ratings. What we can show are named, checkable results from our HVAC work, where the group's consulting began. For example, BCWide.ca tripled its leads in 90 days, and HVACDeal.ca generated 500+ leads at a 12:1 return. Those are heating-sector numbers, and we never present them as anything else. The results page explains which parts of the method carry over to a Coquitlam bakery, physio clinic or landscaping crew, and which parts don't.

Before you get in touch

You'll get more out of the first call if you bring a few things. None of them need to be polished.

  • The decision you're facing, in one sentence.
  • Last year's revenue and a rough gross margin.
  • How many new customers you won in the last three months, and where they came from.
  • What you've already tried, including any agency or consultant who didn't work out.

Frequently asked questions

What is Coquitlam.Business?

Coquitlam.Business is a Canadian consulting practice for owner-run businesses, and it belongs to the Sedighi.ca and SAZ.ca group of companies. The group is headquartered in Vancouver, BC, led by Ali Sedighi, MBA, and it advises owner-run businesses in Coquitlam on growth planning, marketing strategy and operations.

What kind of businesses do you work with?

Mostly established local businesses with a handful to a few dozen people: trades and home-service firms, clinics and studios, retailers, restaurants and professional practices. If the owner still makes most of the decisions, we are probably a good fit.

Do you do the work, or only advise?

We advise and plan, and on a retainer we can also help carry the plan out with your team. We don't install, repair or service anything, and we don't provide legal, accounting or tax advice; for those we tell you which professional to bring in.

What does consulting cost?

Hourly sessions are $175 to $350 an hour, defined projects run $3,500 to $25,000, and monthly retainers are $2,500 to $12,000. BC clients add 5% GST. The first 30-minute consultation is free.

Why should I trust your case studies if I'm not in HVAC?

You shouldn't treat them as a forecast. They are results from our HVAC work, and we show them because they prove the planning method, not because your sector will produce the same numbers. We explain what transfers on the results page.

Your head office is in Vancouver. Do you know Coquitlam?

We work from the City of Coquitlam's own area plans, census figures and the search results your customers actually see in your part of the city. Most of the work happens on calls, in shared documents and in your numbers, so distance matters far less than preparation.
